Site redesign on the way

by Mark on February 11, 2008

We’re getting ready to totally revamp the look of the Vacant Desk website. As we’re finding our voice and trying to figure out how to provide the maximum level of value to the reader we felt we should spiff things up quite a bit.

Before we do that we’d like to hear from anyone who’s interested in weighing in our future content. The general idea is to provide content that helps people be free from working for the man, in a cubicle, or just a slave in general to their work life.

We plan to cover the following topics:

- Tools (software, hardware) for working from wherever and whenever

- Mindset and Methodologies for being successful as a mobile worker

- Training resources for mobile entrepreneurship

- Lifestyle. How do I live a full and free life while shattering the worker status-quo?

So sound off! What else would you like to hear about? What tools do you need to succeed? What do you need to know?

Definitely keep us up to date on all the helpful tools/resources that save time and help you be more effective.

Tips on the best wifi spots in your area would be great too (best hours, least crowded). It’s always a bummer to get ramped up for getting stuff done and stepping into a location that is packed with soccer moms and MLM prowlers. Sometimes working at home, especially if you have kids, is hard to do but staying connected at a descent place to get work done that isnt an office is a challenge too.

Keep it up, vacant desk is rad.

Oh, one more thing. If you have any stories of successful “mobile workers” and what they are up too, those are always inspiring too.

Oh yeah Jon. I love the MLM prowlers! I mean, nothing against MLM and everything but I almost can’t help laughing out loud at this opening line: “Excuse me. How do you like your computer? Does it work well for you?” Hands down, that’s a MLM person trying to “relate” to you.

We’ll see if we can find a good database of wi-fi spots to incorporate. Good idea.

Thanks for the suggestion to find good case studies. We’ll work on putting some together.
