About

me and von

My name is Mark and I’m an entrepreneur.

I’m in my mid-30s right now and have been working for myself since my 20′s. I spent a few years traveling the world and working for a nonprofit. In hindsight I can see I was a bit of a goof off.

At the time I felt like I was doing what I was supposed to do but wasn’t giving much thought to how I was going to make a living. I quickly realized that I wasn’t meant to work for other people. (Ironically, I’ve since figured out that you’re always working for someone whether it’s your investors, your employees, or your joint venture partners.)

Some of the businesses I’ve built have been: contract manufacturing sales, a water jet cutting facility, an industrial design company, real estate development, and web design and Internet marketing consulting.

It has only been through real estate development and Internet marketing that I’ve ever made any real money. I’d like to think that my first few businesses were my training grounds. I went from being a naïve and over optimistic youngster to the point where I am today – I understand the basics of business and know enough to know that I don’t know enough. ;)

These days I make 100% of my money through Internet Marketing. I practice both affiliate marketing and the promotion of my own online businesses.

I sincerely believe that owning your own business is the greatest path to prosperity. Regardless of the type of business you own your greatest chance of success will come from the opportunities you own.

This sincere belief has kept me plugging along through good times and bad. There have been times when I honestly did not know how we were going to pay for another day of living. On the other hand, there have been times when I’ve had more money than I needed.

As I have matured in my understanding of how business works and in my own ability to be productive, I have only become more sure of my mission in life as a business person — to build diversified streams of income through various business entities to provide for my family and others as God would lead.

However, a key tenant of the content found within this site is being able to work from anywhere at any time by reducing much of the overhead a typical business accumulates. Work and life freedom.

I’m a big fan of the four hour workweek and strive to make decisions based on the 80/20 principle. I also don’t like working for work’s sake. I think it’s stupid that most Americans are defined by what they do. Unfortunately we sacrifice our family and friendships for the sake of being successful in our work. It’s macabre to me that we often don’t meet our goals at work and at the same time sacrifice everything that’s truly important in our lives.

I hope you’ll join me as I explore the principles behind having a type of work freedom that is both prosperous and healthy.

Just so you know. If I can I get referral credits or dollars by embedding affiliate code into my posts. I wouldn’t call myself a shill for the man but I sure do like to make a few extra bucks by sharing my experience with products I pay for and use myself.

A very impressive website with timely and practical advice from a fresh voice. You are definitely on to something. I look forward to more posts and seeing the "vacant desk" concept catch on. (Hopefully I'll be doing so from wherever the heck I want to...Paris sounds nice right about now.)
